Retiring a blog and starting a newsletter / new platform

My question is three-fold.

I currently have a wordpress blog hosted by Siteground. I've run my blog for 8 years, but recently I've been finding that I'm not getting the best value out of it, and neither are my readers. I'm thinking of retiring it. How should I do this? Is it a case of simply stopping paying for my domain and hosting - what happens to the blog?

I'm thinking of starting a newsletter instead, sent out to subscribers. I am looking into substack to host this - does anyone use anything better?

I'm looking to hire someone to help me with a new platform to host my portfolio, professional services as well as an archive of my newsletter. I would need help with the technical side, and also design. Please do get in touch to discuss this with me!

  • Hi, Ella. Best to contact Siteground about the next steps when you move in another hosting site. Perhaps, you can ask if they can archive all your work and have it sent/downloaded? Not sure.

I'm actually considering Substack, too. Considering some journalists/writers from renown publishing houses choose the same to build a following, I think it's the next best thing. I read this a few days ago: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2021/01/04/is-substack-the-media-future-we-want

I usually recommend Squarespace since it's highly intuitive, responsive, and easy to navigate and maintain. These things you mentioned are all possible there. Where can I reach you? You may send me an email at hello@designkick.io should you be interested to discuss further.
