I love solving problems and I love museums. As it turned out, those are a good combination of interests.
Two years ago, I was given the opportunity to help develop V&A East, a new exciting museum opening in Stratford, London. It is, among other things, a once-in-a-life time opportunity to create a museum for the next generation of visitors and audiences of east London and beyond.
The learning curve has been steep (who knew the data of a 1.2M million-object collection was so complex to analyse...), the challenges incomparible to anything I've worked on before and the creativity involved, unsurprisingly, has been far beyond my usual (albeit critical) colour-coding of Excel tabs. Working with and learning from incredible people, whose skills, expertise and experiences are so diverse and so entirely different from mine has been the most invaluable part of it all.
In short, it has been an exhilitaring, eye-opening journey that I would highly recommend to anyone, even and especially if you have never thought of working in the art or cultural sector before.
Please do help by sharing widely! Project management/service design experience desirable.
