Trying to push out of where I am in the industry at a student level and find more serious placements/shadowing positions, any tips?

As I get closer to my final year at uni, I find that I'm filling my thoughts with ideas and schemes to improve my workflows and creativity in the film production/videography industry but I'm missing that vital step of pushing out of my current position and getting my name out there to get more professional work (or even work where I'm not having to make a point of asking if I'll get any payment for the work I'm being asked to do). If anyone has any tips or even just experience I could hear that might help, I'd love to hear or chat about it!
