14 Hole Golf

  • Michael Peters

This project evolved from my love for golf into researching how and why the number of golfers in Europe have been declining and how golf can get rid of its perception in order to attract a younger generation of golfers. I surveyed a large collection of golfers who a majority agreed that golf was taking too much time out of their day. I asked if they would prefer to play 9 holes or shorter forms of the game instead but most would’ve preferred an in between, of which there isn’t. So I invented 14 Hole Golf. A new form of golf which allows you to skip holes on your own course in order to enjoy the game in a little less time. The 14 Hole Golf kit box comes equipped with all you need to turn your course into a 14 Hole course with signage, flags, tee markers and golfing accessories. Plus a lovely little pamphlet which contains all the information you need. The bright and contemporary identity appeals to the young and vibrant new players that golf needs in order to survive and change the current perception of its game. The fluorescent yellow that runs throughout the identity reflects this as it stands out against all backgrounds. The font I used, Beatrice Display, was chosen for its lovely contrasts in weight which reminded me a lot of golf flags and holes. The arrow I created, that derives from the font, resembles the thin pole and wide flag used within golf. The counters within letters such as the ‘e’ and ‘d’ also felt like looking at a distant cup just waiting for a ball to rattle into the bottom of it.
