1920s Fashion and Architecture

  • Ciara Hamilton
The theme of my most recent project is 1920s Fashion and Architecture. With inspiration from exhibitions at the fashion and textiles museum and the V&A, I could take key colours and themes from the collections. The fundamental techniques of hand embroidery and beading in 1920s fashion were evident and therefore linked well with my specialism within textiles. The focus on fabric manipulation, machine embroidery and hand embroidery is apparent in my project, creating interesting and innovative surface textures. Combining bold shapes and sharp lines works well, with emphasis on finer details. I enjoyed experimenting with a variety of fabrics, stitches and textures, with the composition of pleating and CAD embroidery being a great success.
