Drama and reality combine in a fictitious 24 hours in the life of musician and international cultural icon Nick Cave. With startlingly frank insights and an intimate portrayal of the artistic process, the film examines what makes us who we are, and celebrates the transformative power of the creative spirit.
The film premiered in January 2014 at Sundance, where it won the World Documentary Directing Award for Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard and the Editing Award for Jonathan Amos. Presenting the awards, the jury said we award this film for being arguably the most exciting film in competition. It ruthlessly deconstructs two very different artforms, music and documentary, yet takes nothing away from the everyday reality or magic of it's main subject. This is documentary storytelling at it's most visionary and mindblowing.
Sundance was quickly followed by the european premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. A worldwide release is planned for later in 2014. The film features appearances from Ray Winstone, Blixa Bargeld and Kylie Minogue, with an original score by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis. Cinematography is by Erik Wilson (Submarine, Tyrannosaur, The Imposter, The Double).
Salon Magazine described the film as Gorgeous and haunting an unclassifiable and frequently spectacular documentary. It has been described as "decisively breaking the music documentary mould" by the Evening Standard, by Dave Calhoun from Time Out as "thrilling to behold" and by Nick James, editor of Sight and Sound as "the most sophisticated rock star biog ever".
