It’s the year 2170 where two possible futures are unfolding, the utopian future and the dystopian future. Set in a futuristic eco city, the utopian future is a vision of hope and transparency, where artificial intelligence lives alongside humanity and all climate problems are a distant memory. However, the dystopian future is a utopia that has gone wrong. Exploring how our harmful actions will ultimately cause destruction, the world has been devastated by the extreme consequences of climate change and humanity is trying to fend for themselves in harsh climates, trekking to find a safe haven. Designing for two different male characters living in the contrasting futures and their textile performance needs, 2170 Vision investigates the future of fashion through woven techniques, smart textiles and found material experimentation. Inspiration for this project is informed by the ideas and visuals presented in science fiction, supported by the current fear of the destruction to the environment and a demand for a better future.
