One of my highlights of second year was planning and launching the 50 shades of Loughborough campaign for the Ethnic Minorities Network. One of our aims as a team was to create an ”experience” and find a new way to engage our audience. Having been inspired by art exhibitions we set out to stimulate the discussion of colourism in a new way that would appeal to our core BME audience as well as educate our ally audience. We projected images of BME Loughborough students as well as videos of people speaking on their relationship with their bodies, skin, hair etc. The most innovative idea came from Adedamola Ososanya in the form of a podcast station, the anonymity and intimacy really impacted those that listened. The art exhibition was followed by a panel discussion which I had the pleasure of being part of, it involved speaking on my experience with colourism and why it has been an issue affecting BME individuals throughout history.
