A boy with Dravet Syndrome.

  • Izzy Ablewhite

Dravet Syndrome is a rare epileptic genetic disorder affecting 1 in 20,000 to 40,000 births. My brother, Nicholas Ablewhite, is one of these people.  A week after Nick’s first birthday he had his first seizure. Initially he stopped walking, stopped talking and was rushed off to the local hospital. Since that day he’s been in and out of many different hospitals, tried numerous mixes of medication whilst singing along to the “Thomas the Tank Engine” theme song on repeat.  17 years later he was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome. In the simplest terms - he has the body of a 22 year old but a mind of a 1 year old, who has seizures.  In this series I wanted to visually show an average day for Nick using his seizure diary as a template, thereby giving a small insight into the life of a boy with Dravet Syndrome.
