Amelia Kate Sampson A. Fossil 33017 Kilkenny Limestone 35 x 102 x 51cm Concerned by concept and form Amelia Kate Sampson meticulously creates two and three-dimensional artworks. Sculpturally Amelia concentrates in the medium of stone, primarily aiming to represent a geological notion of time. Inspired by the concept of the Anthropocene, the stone-carved sculpture A. Fossil 33017 shows the artist’s interpretation of a futuristic fossil. Depicting a fossilised rope Amelia aims to deprecate the evolution of man and its degenerative impact on the biosphere. Amelia chose to portray this with a rope because of its tool like connotations, symbolising what most believe distinguish man from ape. After further research into the connotations of rope Amelia discovered that a hangman would use thirteen knots on the noose to further condemn their victims. Incorporating this into the central knot of the sculpture Amelia questions the extinction of all mankind symbolising if man with ever endure the true effect of our existence on earth.
