A Map of Falling in Love

  • Shredha Joseph

A visual representation of the different stages of falling in love and the hormones associated with each stage. This map is a lens for understanding the complex emotion of love. Taking from psychology and ancient Hindu mythology, I connected both these areas to create my final map. In the final map, the four acrylic sheets have details about the first four stages of falling in love according to Hindu mythology (attraction, intimacy, devotion, compassion) and the hormones associated with each stage printed on it, and the mirror represents the fifth stage i.e.; self-love. The strings that are tied to the acrylic and meet at the mirror represents the hormones associated with each stage. Each hormone was given a colour with which the strings were painted. Oxytocin is red, Dopamine is orange, Adrenaline is purple, Testosterone is blue, and Estrogen is pink. The map is accompanied with a ‘connect the dots’ guide that aims at giving each user a personalised user experience.
