A Moby Dick For Modern Times

  • Joshua James Smith

Small-run publication visualising a Guardian article from January 2018 in a typographic outcome.

This limited-edition, hand-crafted publication is a typographic exploration of a Guardian article from January 2018. The article details the many whale deaths within the River Thames and compares it to old nautical tales such as Moby Dick. The author is clearly trying to suggest the story’s relevance throughout the ages. To reflect this, I printed the alphabet in wooden type to be able to create the type. As the story goes forward, less wooden type is used but replaced with a modern font, reflecting the old to modern references.
