The 2024 regular game between Korea University and Yonsei University took place at Goyang Gymnasium on Sunday. A large number of basketball players from both schools visited the site ahead of the game. Notably, Lee Jung-hyun, a sono based in Goyang, appeared in Yonsei University's cheering section, drawing attention.
Lee Jung-hyun, a graduate of Yonsei University, cheered for his juniors along with Kim Kyung-won (KGC), Mo Yong-hoon and Kwon Yong-woong (retired) at the Yonsei University's cheering section. Lee Jung-hyun showed his true fan appearance without any addition or subtraction. Whenever Yonsei scored a goal, he showed big reactions like an innocent boy, and when he missed a chance, he lamented, "Ah!"
He explained why he visited the stadium, saying, "I just played at Sono Stadium, which I'm using as a home, and I'm here to support my juniors because I'm off today."
Not only Lee but also Sono players who are based in Goyang, including Jung Hee-jae and Hong Gyeonggi, visited Goyang Gymnasium to watch the regular games on the occasion of their break. Jung Hee-jae and Hong Gyeonggi are from Korea University. "Every time a regular game is held with (Jung) Hee-jae, Korea University wins, and Yonsei University wins, bickering (laughs). I jokingly told them to bet on who wins before the game," Lee said
How do you feel about the upcoming match between players and spectators? "This is the first time I've come to see the match as an audience, not as an athlete," Lee said. "I missed this atmosphere so much. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, I only experienced regular matches twice. This atmosphere can be felt only in college. In fact, cheering with alumni from the stands was very exciting and fun," Lee said.
The two teams form the best rivalry in the university, but Korea University laughed more recently in their showdowns. Coincidentally, Yonsei University has not won a regular match since 2018, when Lee Jung-hyun was the main player.
Is it because Lee Jung-hyun's cheering spirit reaches the team? Yonsei finished the first half with a 10-point lead over Korea University (39-29). Lee said, "We lost all of the recent regular games, but the mood is good at the beginning today. We will win."
In the first half, Lee Ju-young scored 14 points and Kim Seung-woo scored seven, leading the team. "I've known Ju-young since she was a child. Before the match, Joo-young asked me to shake hands, saying, "I need energy from you. Maybe because I shook hands, I think I'm doing well," he said with a smile. "(Kim) Seung-woo also had a few practice matches, and I think he's doing well. I hope he wins today."
