In this research I proposed a rethinking of art and design histories and their place in art and design education in UK in particular to include a critique of the social construction of the artist. In my practice based research I employed reflexive art practices prevalent in contemporary art. I embodied various artists in photography and film in order to gain an understanding of the position of the artist in art education and wider culture. Through this research I examine how the teaching of art history in the class room might constitute a performance of the past. This performance of art histories by art teachers can be seen as both a social and subjective practice
