Acting with Shakespeare Nation - Royal Shakespeare Company

  • Rosie Anne Peat

Palm to Palm was a devised piece of theatre, directed by Miche Montague, that was made in response to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet with participation from members of Evolve (Mancroft Advice Project), New Routes and University of East Anglia students and staff. We started the collaboration with a viewing of the Royal Shakespeare Company's new Romeo and Juliet performance which was touring round the UK. From there, we talked about Norwich as a community and how we can translate the story of Romeo and Juliet into our community and the people involved. We had students, refugees and transgender participating and wished to represent them all. While working on the project, I was helping out with movement instruction, liasing with the Director and researching music options for the production. In the end, I acted and sang in the final production.
