Advocacy Video / Niger's Humanitarian Overview

  • Emanuele Cidonelli

The video was filmed and edited in December 2019 during the visit of the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Ursula Mueller to Niger and features several humanitarian hotspots in the regions of Diffa, Tahoua, Tillabery and Maradi. The film aimed to raise awareness on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Niger.

Niger faced in 2019 a complex security situation due to the conflicts that are impacting its bordering countries: Mali, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Chad and Libya. Increasing violence against civilians have caused massive displacements within and across borderswhile impacting negatively on pre-existing vulnerabilities such as recurrent seasonal shocks (floods, droughts, epidemics), food security and malnutrition.
The UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimated that 2,9 millions people would need humanitarian assistance in 2020.
The video includes aerial filming and motion graphic elements such as animated maps, titles and data visualisations.
Data visualisation where created and animated on Apple Keynote and exported through alpha channeled videos to Final Cut Pro. Motion graphics and titles very animated directly with the support of FCP effects suite. Animated satellite views were generated using Google Earth desktop application.
