The West has poured billions of dollars into Afghanistan, and sacrificed the lives of thousands of soldiers, but to many people back home it's a confusing, frightening mystery, a place of war, extremism and bitter poverty.

Afghanistan at Work is a 6 episode documentary project inspired by its predecessor www.kabulatwork.tv which offered a window into the soul of this much-maligned country through the working lives of ordinary people, from a graffiti artist, a gambler to a female MP, Afghan commando, or a beleaguered mayor.

This time instead of portraying individuals, we are focusing on powerful central characters with a strong supporting cast to showcase Afghanistan's rich and complex society. Modern-day saints, ruthless warlords, canny businessmen all make an appearance.
