Album Cover

Brief: To design a record cover of an album of your choice.
This was a personal project I did to reflect my interest in music. I chose to create an album cover for the electronica band Caribou. I wanted to capture the sense of escapism into dreamy underwater worlds evoked when listening to the albums repetitive rhythms and fractured beats.
I was initially inspired by the artwork on the original cover of the album “Swim” with it’s movement and concentric circular pattern. I used this idea when creating the logotype for the band name “Caribou”.
I was also inspired by the album’s title “Swim” and the associated connotations of waves, water, motion and then soundwaves.
I was also inspired by the artwork of Stephen Orlando and four time Olympic kayaker Adam van Koeverden who collaborated to produce a series of kayak motion exposure photos. Stephen attached colour changing LED lights to Adam’s paddle and used a long exposure photograph to reveal the path of his paddle stroke.
