Alice Aedy Website Re-Design

  • Jack Redley

Alice Aedy is a 26 year-old documentary photographer, film-maker and activist, whose work focuses on forced migration, environmental issues and women’s stories. I chose to do this portfolio piece firstly because Alice’s work has had a huge impact on me. From her photos of refugees on the Greek island of Lesbos to her poignant pictures of fisherman facing seal level rise and storm damage due to climate change, all the work she does tells stories that need to be told. Secondly, I feel that her current website doesn’t allow the photos and films to tell their stories as effectively as they should. I wanted to re-design the website to allow the viewer to focus on each individual photo. I also wanted the photos to be the focal point so chose a dark background and a characterful but clean typeface for the website font. Here's the original site: http://www.aliceaedy.com/ Here's the redesign: https://alice-aedy-re-design.webflow.io/

The original site is slightly cluttered with a lot of content with no focal point and little room to breathe. I wanted to open up the website for the viewer so they could focus on the individual photos themselves. I also wanted to take the viewer on a journey
I started with some moodboards to find some inspiration. I loved the charasmatic and elegant typefaces, the wide open spaces allowing the content to breathe and the animations of these websites.
After a lot of sketching, I settled on this elegant logo and simple colour palette that I used throughout the redesigned website.
After making wireframes, I built this website in webflow. Check out the final website here
