Alphabet Island

  • James Wilson

This project considers a time in the near future where a corporation (Google) has established its own country. A digital country with no land and a nomadic population scattered around the world. The aim is to give people the option to renounce their current citizenship and escape government corruption without needing to leave their homes. The artefacts in this piece are taken from the future and are part of the “Welcome Pack” given to each citizen in 2039. The items draw inspiration from a number of areas such as the values outlined for Web3, Blockchain technology, as well as world issues including climate change and global pandemics.

GoDiVA Mask

The mask can be worn in three different modes: clear, anonymous, and UV. Clear lets people see you while still allowing you to use the air filter and digital irises. Anonymous frosts over, allowing you to see but preventing others from seeing your face. UV is used when the sun’s rays are particularly strong and dangerous.

Personal Server

The clear diamond shaped object is a personal server connected to a citizens computer. The portable server connects to the main server farm. It allows the owner to use and manage their part of the Google Blockchain. It also acts as a strong wireless internet connection which can be used anywhere in the world. The citizens can access their important personal information, such as licenses, passport, cryptocurrency wallet and other things that are kept on the secure main server. These can be transferred to the physical programmable keys which are also part of the welcome pack.

Programmable Keys

This set of keys contains all of your information, including your passport, door key, cryptocurrency, bank cards, autonomous drivers licence, and any other information you may require on a daily basis. These are programmed and erased via the Blockchain. Their universal ports make it simple to integrate into the world. There is also a demonstration of the key being used to open a hotel door using the key and fingerprint.
