Alphabet Soup

  • Tommy Hagan

Alphabet Soup is a real-time type displacement algorithm. Taking any typed input, it slices the text string into individual glyphs and displaces them via font size according to the underlying light or dark pixels with little to no rendering time. Using kerning, line height, font size, opacity, and colour, the user can control how legible or abstract they wish the composition to be. It’s about motion. What was originally a small research project during another project, we developed this into its own animal. It works with webcam input but we prefer using it with video uploads. And in particular, displacement sources created in After Effects (two of which are included in the source files in the github link). This is version 1 and we plan on adding more stuff as time goes on. Click Below To Open
