exploring and alternative opening sequence and logo for the netflix show 3%. using a range of different techniques such as photography, photography glitch manipulation and film editing.
developed by pedro aguilera, 3% is a brasilian production series that portraits a dystopian future of a civilisation divided into two main parts: "lado de cá"/continente ("over here") and "lado de lá"/"mar alto" ("over there"). Only 3% of the population get to live in "mar alto", which is this utopian civilisation with all the best and most intelligent people. In order for a citizen from the "continente" to be able to move to "mar alto" they have to pass a test called "processo". this test involves a series of physical, mental and social challenges, aiming to get only the best top 3% to join the others that live in "mar alto". Although the show is set on an abstract society, from my point of view it does represent the current brasilian social and economic situation in a metaphorical way and i think that is why it is so powerfull.
this project was completely experimental and approached in a holistic way. the process itself was meant to be totally free of any constraints. there is no storyboarding or planning. i watched the whole show three times and some episodes more than that. then i simply thought about the key moments that would stand out the most in my head and started to record them. from there, i simply started to put them together and experimenting freely. the glitched video for the logo was made frame by frame by designing each one individually. the soundtrack tries to match the visuals with the meaning of the words.
