Shortmovie (7.21) Premiered 4 October 2018 at the Liverpool Biennial, Liverpool, UK Written and directed by Marco Galvan Starring Sophia Lockhart Filmography Dominick Soar e project is testing the possibilities of lmmaking as a way of communicating curatorial research. An Absence is a shortmovie that relates to the theme of the Liverpool Biennial as it tries to give an interpretation, a gaze and a perspective of women living in the contemporary society. Italian writer Natalia Ginzburg was intimately writing about women life in Letter to women, 1938, describing the struggles of her life as a woman. e intention is to highlight how, for many women, the same dynamics have not changed in over 80 years, where a rampant feeling of frustration is has been growing, caused by the discrepancy between social expectations and personal needs. Inspired by Ginzburg’s letter, the curator- lmmaker readapts concepts and situations by working closely with the actress in order to make her feel completely involved in the role. e slow zooming e ect throughout the whole video and the verbal climax of the woman help creating in the viewer a growing sense of uncomfortable tension and empathic involvement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpGmsY0gk4U
