Anthology design brief was a collaborative project with English Literature students. Hannah Ponting essay on’ A Mercy ‘by Toni Morrison was the appointed written piece to me. The Essay referred or analysed upon the gruesome characters in the 17th century, the reflection on the African American women. The use of quote’ to be a female in this place is to be an open wound that cannot heal’, represented the key events of gender, race and slavery from Hannah’s interpretation of the novel. The design outcome explores the different print solutions to represent its depth of meaning and theme. Photography element moved towards the black and white print outlook, displays the bold statement of defines the race and gender aspect. The depiction of facial feature and unravels the connotation of behind the meaning to be an African American women.
