I curated the exhibition, Art Balaayo in May 2017. The focus of the exhibition was to highlight the work of artists from the Somali diaspora and to open, challenge and explore unspoken narratives. Works included painting, photography, film and zines. The launch included readings from Momtaza Mehri, Aisha Mohammed and Jannat Hussain. We also hosted a workshop called Letters to yourself led by Nasreen Shaikh Jamal Al-Lail from Variant Space collective. The exhibition was held at Red Door Studios in East London. Contributing artists included: Asiya Ali, Aisha Mohammed, Halima Salah (UAE/US), Naima Hassan, Nasra Abdullahi and Kariima Ali. The title of the exhibition was inspired by the Artbalaayo podcast pioneered by Somali women in the UAE.
