ARTBOOK "(THE)OTHER"

  • Maria Bampali

The artbook titled ' (THE)OTHER' can be characterised as a fragmented visual narrative that was made out of the production of around hundred and fifty drawings with the blend of textual elements respectively.

“A sense of belonging. Belongingness – acceptance, a human emotional and inherent necessity that all humans demand. Whether it comes from a particular person, from a particular group of people – from our household, from acquaintances, from associates – friends or even strangers that produce a socio-communal environment. Belongingness is an indispensability that comes and goes, that constructs continuous cycles, but is always present and constantly pedalling, either consciously or subconsciously".

It demonstrates to project, evaluate and set a supplementary circle of questions about how ‘a being as an individual’ fluctuating and trying to subsist into a sociocultural context. The narrative starts by an illustrative representation of the "self". The figures that are presented are impersonal in order to question, into an empirical way, the affiliation between the 'Essential Nature' (our personality), what it means to be a 'Body' in the world and the controversial belief about whether is true or false that our fundamental attempt to comfort into an ensemble (a unit) is already determined prior hand.

The title '(THE)OTHER' stands as a double-viewpoint, a play of words, where its essence is both singular and plural, is both the object and the subject as a form,  which targets to manifest the conceptual context of the book.
