Packaging design and catalog pictures for the latest panettone of master pastry chef Andrea Tortora.

Panettone Milano is part of the new Christmas Collection by Andrea Tortora, the master pastry chef behind the brand AT Pâtissier. My partner and I were asked to design a packaging for his latest creation and to shoot pictures for the catalog on his website

Panettone Milano is a tribute to the city of Milan, the place where the first dessert of this kind was invented back in the late 15th century. Panettone Milano rigorously follows the tall-shape revolution of Angelo Motta—an Italian entrepreneur associated with the commercial production of panettone—and it is offered in an elegant tin box. To decorate the packaging, my partner and I were asked to tailor a design with a Christmas feeling and references to Milan. With this in mind, we started the project by choosing a color palette that could recall the Christmas period, and by associating the city of Milan with objects, symbols, and patterns. As Milan has also a rich history of design and architecture, in the end, we decided to use the famous geometrical pattern of Piazza del Duomo, the main piazza of Milan.

To digitalize this unique pattern, we used pictures as references to create a flexible vector that could be shaped for our needs. Once applied and stretched on the tin, we applied the chosen red and gold hues to every detail and started to play with tints, tones, and shades until we got a balanced combination. The result is a versatile packaging that both evokes Christmas and the very heart of the city center of Milan.
