Atlas of contemporary technology

  • Elisa Cianferoni
This work is part of a bigger project: the Atlas project for the IUAV University Communication Laboratory. It is divided in a paper and in a digital part and is organized in ten topics, each one assigned to a different group, our is FARMING. This is the third chapter of the “Atlas of contemporary technology”, focused on farming analyses some of the main topics related to the means employed today in agriculture and animal breeding. Particular attention is given to the effects of this practices on the environment. The “Atlas of contemporary technology” is the printed part, for which we designed and realized six double pages for the following topics: - A history of farming - Bio & GMOs - Monoculture & Intensive Farming - Meat in vitro - Aquaculture, Aquaponics & aeroponics, Algae - Why not eat insects?
As already mentioned, the atlas was to be composed of ten different themes developed by ten different groups, but the final result had to be consistent in order to be considered unitary as an editorial project. To achieve this it was decided to use the Risograph printing technique that has led us to use black as the common color and red or blue alternating between the different themes. The color assigned to our group was the blue that we decided to use as an index of importance in the layout of the arguments; blue color for primary information and the black color for the secondary ones.
