Away with the Fairies

Away with the fairies is a personal reflection on the Covid-19 pandemic. During the pandemic I spent a lot of time at home in my bedroom due to the restrictions. This led to a lot of day dreaming whilst sitting in bed. I thought about how in Tír na nÓg there was no illness and I longed for this fantasy. This lead to researching Irish mythology and learning more about the ‘Other World’ Looking at Lough Gur and Cork Public Museum as primary research, I began to visualise and understand these great tales. The collection comprises of light and heavy fabrics to reflect the Goddess Bridgid being both a healer and a protector. Inspired by the balance of masculinity and femininity the collection focuses on using both delicate and protective fabrics. The collection is both utilitarian and romantic, creating balance while redefining the idea of protection.
