My research began with my report that was based upon the question of how architectural space can effectively convey a sense of community and social cohesion among the inhabitants. Primarily, I focused on the city of Barcelona and how it’s Eixample district structure was built with the community in mind. This was the most important urban transformation in Barcelona. The main idea of Ildefons Cerda was to make urban social justice. I am exploring the design of humanitarian urbanism that would give comfort and equality to citizens without differentiating whether they were rich or poor. I looked at social and urban problems of density and mobility together with how architectural design can be challenged to conform to a greater level of social cohesion. I have translated Barcelona’s city layout into a publication design that communicated the history and its transformation in an aesthetically challenging manner.
