Personality disorders have long been stigmatised in our society, painting those who suffer as villainous, rather than people with an illness. This notion scandalises real individuals and can have a great effect on their everyday interactions and relationships. As my close friend, Bette, is diagnosed with BPD, I have seen first-hand the negative effect these portrayals can have on a person, so I was inspired to create work that counters this stereotype. This short series centres around Bette and her experience living with BPD, offering a different perspective on the illness in which her own sporadic and fraught internal state is the focus.
