Birth Rites

Working closely with designer Stiliyana Minkovska to produce a cosmic meditative soundscape for her Designer in Residence show: Ultima Thule at the London Design Museum. Presenting an alternative to the hospital birthing setting, a sanctury like environment showcasing three ergonomic furniture pieces that surport women through different stages of child birth. The soundscape was produced by combining hydrophone recordings to create the claustrophobic sensation of the womb, as a space, and combining these with ethereal like musical textures. I focused on the resonances of the instruments, allowing these to enhance the field recordings to a transcendent cosmic entity. The piece was designed to play on a loop in the exhibit space presenting an alternative to the hospital birthing setting. A sanctuary-like environment showcasing three ergonomic furniture pieces that support women through different stages of childbirth.
