Black Girls Book Club Presents: Dope Discussions at the Palace of Westminster

  • BGBC Log in

After the first edition of our series of discussions – with 150 beautiful Black women walking through the halls of the Palace of Westminster; Black Girls Book Club is very proud to present our second instalment of Dope Discussions.

BGBC is for us, by us. It was founded by two Black women with a voice and as this project grows we are blessed to have a platform and we intend to use it.
‘DOPE DISCUSSIONS’ forms part of a series of free events that BGBC have launched. Whether it’s Black women getting information and taking over the Houses of Parliament or hosting a brunch with award selling author Angie Thomas, it’s our mission to ensure that access to our events is for the many and not the few.
As always, BGBC does things big so what’s better than having 150 Black women at Parliament? Doing it all over again so people know that we are here to stay.
Inspired by recent events Black Girls Book Club wants to use the second DOPE DISCUSSION as an opportunity to discuss despite it all ‘The inextinguishable light of Black women’.
We want to use our time to discuss at lengths what it means to be a Black British woman. Let’s share in the things that bring us joy. The goals that we have for 2018. The women who have inspired and continue to inspire us. Things we do to aid in self-care. Let’s discuss our activism. Our businesses. Our projects. The music we love. Things that annoy us. The issues we refuse to take into 2018. Things we would love to change. DOPE DISCUSSIONS II is for us, by us and we want to explore who we are as Black women in our entirety.

Now, This is BGBC. So, we won’t be having a panel. We won’t have people talking at you. We won’t have people ‘educating’ you. No grandstanding. No self-serving. Every woman has a voice and we want her to have a space to use it.
This won’t be our typical brunch event. No booze. No brunch. No goody bags. Just a big group of beautiful black women coming together to create dialogue
Now as y’all know BGBC doesn’t open doors. We kick them down and bring our sisters through. We aren’t just offering you a seat at the table we are giving you the opportunity shake it.
Black women are the culture. We are the conversation. Change starts with us. Join us as we come together to unpack what makes us the glorious beings we have come to be.

Event took place January 9 2018
