This programme through film sought to encourage community-wide dialogue around matters such as mental health, immigration and identity through films made by Black filmmakers. Each night wasfollowed by a discussion in which audience members and a panel explored the presented themes in conversation. The event also had a digital art exhibition by local artist Baraka Carberry. The programme included interviews from members of the Staffordshire Police's Multicultural Association including the second black female police officer in the UK Loleita Higgins and a local film makers exploration of mixed heritage through the eyes of former wold class boxer Neville Brown. Unsound- 10th October '19 On the second night we screened Darious Britt's Unsound, a semi-autobiographical and entirely self-funded exploration of the journey of an ambitious, young filmmaker who must battle his mother's mental illness and his own worst fears to save her from herself and reclaim his life. The screening was followed by a discussion with a panel of mental health professionals as well as members of various charities and community groups that come face to face with the realities of mental health everyday as part of World Mental Health day. Daughters of the Dust- 17th October '19 License acquired from the BFI. Followed by discussion about identity and how to move forward from a broken and painful past. Homelands 24th October '19 Jaha Browne's Homelands is the culmination of a year-long project in which for acclaimed British urban musicians returned to their cultural roots, connecting with their homelands to create and produce new music.
