BLOCO LAMP

BLOCO//
The Bloco lamp series were the first commercial product designed for my brand, Estúdio Rua. The inspiration came from the Brazilian Brutalists, who explored in depth the possibilities of the apparent concrete and austere shapes.
I wanted a simple design, yet impactant, that helped in building my Studio's urban identity. Besides, there were technical, structural and financial limitations to deal with, so the Bloco project came to be the solution to all of that.
This perfectly orthogonal shape allows user to interact with the lamp, choosing the position of his preference and even changing it every now and then.
Also, through the Bloco Series I intended to express my belief in recycling. So, rather than using sand, I mixed demolition waste with cement to build the lamp’s body. The result came to be aesthetically interesting: non-controlled fragments of brick, stone, clay and ceramic from the waste gave each piece an unique aspect.
Bloco has been marketed by Carbono Design, a well known furniture store in São Paulo, which represents Droog in Brazil.
