'Blue Lights' TIE Project on Youth Violencee

  • Cameron Snook

Year 12 Applied Theatre created a performance directed by Nathan Allen called 'Blue Lights' based on the detrimental problem of Youth Violence in Croydon and the surrounding areas. This performance is aimed towards Primary School audiences. This started as our Year 12 Unit 8 'Collaborative Performance Project' and has since been further developed into a 5 Week Theatre In Education project. Within the TIE Project we have invited Primary Schools from the surrounding areas to come in each Friday morning and watch our show; Once they have watched the show we put on a workshop that is aimed to help the students find alternative ways out of gangs and help them find the right ways to make the right choices. Throughout the process as well as a performer in the production I have also worked on 'Sound'. I helped not only chose the music used but I ran the sound for the show throughout every single rehearsal which was a new and interesting process for me. Alongside this I also created the idea of an Instagram account for updates around the production. This was approved and I ran this myself with the posting approval of the teaching faculty of the course. This instagram is @bluelightsbrit . The instagram documented the rehearsal process of the production and the performances - It has not covered the TIE project in much depth as the focus in those sessions are the primary school children & the goal to help them.
