Bob Branaman is a poet, painter and filmmaker from the Beat Generation. After moving to San Francisco in 1959, he was part of an artists collective who travelled around California, merging various new experiences to create his own unique form of cultural expression. In February 2017, Branaman had a solo show at Karma International, Los Angeles and I was commissioned to create a catalogue to go alongside the show. The catalogue had to represent Branaman’s huge portfolio of work in a concise manner, while still giving it plenty of space to breathe. I used colours from Branaman’s work throughout, and varying paper stocks to highlight the difference between the paintings and the artist’s zines.
