Book Collection

The brief: to design a collection of three book covers which are to be part of a growing collection published by a fictional publishing house.

I added to this my own premise, to not just design an illustrated cover but to re-think the makeup of a book, altering the cover as much as a cost effective paperback would allow. The result was a play between the cover board and endpapers, altering their order and exposing their materials.

The cover is a medium-weight grey card, printed with a single ink and cut out to reveal a patterned and colourful thick endpaper that wraps around the leaves. For these, a set palette of colours and a number of geometric patterns (which uses two colours each) are specified to be paired up differently for each book. This created a large number of possible combinations and therefore a distinct cover for each future publication, whilst clearly maintaining the feel of a tight knit collection.

This was a self-initiated project.
