Bowmore Onyx – 51 Years Old 1970

Inspired by the black rocks of Loch Indaal, Bowmore Onyx is a mouth blown decanter created with no exterior mould; a freeform, organic shape created with layers of molten glass, heated and cooled, to get as close to a natural rock formation as possible. At 1400ml it is a European magnum, holding the same volume as two 700ml bottles. The collar and stopper are solid silver, hallmarked, tarnished and engraved. A hand carved, blackened oak presentation case also serves as a plinth. Glass by Glasstorm. Cabintery by John Galvin Design. Donated by Bowmore Distillery for the Worshipful Company of Distillers ‘One of One‘ Charity Auction. Sold for a world record fee of 400,000 GBP World Record – Most expensive bottle of Bowmore ever sold.
