Social economics had implications on the way that individuals acted in the 70’s, creating opinions about how the country was ran and those who ran it. ‘Boys Behaving Proper BADLY!’ is a menswear collection, designed for A/W 2020, focusing on my dad, Paul, and his story of being a ‘young cub’ growing up in the 70’s, abiding by his mother’s rules, but having a dream of breaking free. This collection is a representation of his childhood playing with nostalgic fabrics, colour and reminiscent wallpaper prints that would be typically found in any 70’s household. The main silhouette is influenced by the structured and cropped flak vests, worn by the British Army during the Troubles (1968-1998). This will be combined with heavy wool bumfreezer jackets, soft corduroy flared trousers and tank tops, featuring some reference to formula one racing suits, their detailing and colour palette to express the youthfulness and naivete of my father growing up in a chaotic country.
