BRADFORD SCIENCE FESTIVAL

  • Jon King

Every year, the Science Museum Group hosts a week-long festival. The festival features exciting demos and shows, helping children to be inspired by science. In 2020, the Science Museum Group was forced to take the event online. After completing a competitive tendering process, Envisuals were awarded the contract to prepare all the festival’s video content.

THE BRIEF

There were two elements to the brief. They needed us to...
- Edit footage provided by the science show performers. This had been filmed by performances themselves, who were based all over the UK. The footage varied in quality and needed to be tidied up, edited down, and made ready for online publishing.
- Film a set of videos for several demos. The Broadway Shopping Centre was a corporate sponsor of the event, and so these shows were to be filmed there.

OUR PROCESS

Filming We liaised with the Broadway Shopping Centre to ensure the necessary risk assessments were in place. Not only were we filming in a busy public space; it was also happening during a peak in the Coronavirus outbreak. We ensured that filming was conducted with the highest safety procedures in place.
Editing Work Once we’d received the footage from the show performers, we ingested this into our editing systems, along with the footage we had captured in-house. There was a tight deadline and 100s of videos to edit, so it was important that we logged and labelled the footage to make sure everything was well-organised.
We edited the footage into bite-sized sections, adding the festival’s branding and title slides to the videos.

OUTCOMES

The project had some very tight deadlines, and involved dealing with complex incoming footage, and shifting requirements, all within the uncertainty of the COVID pandemic.
We made use of our well-established procedures for project management to ensure that all of the edits were delivered on-time, and at top quality.
All the videos were delivered on-schedule, with no amendments required. The Science Museum Group were delighted to receive all the content and have it ready ahead-of-schedule for their first ever online Science Festival.
We were really happy to play our part in making the festival a success, and inspiring the next generation of scientists!
