Break the bread - Live brief

  • Martin Nachev

How can typography bridge neighbours and communities together? Working in a multicultural group, we chose to target the most diverse neighbourhood in Bournemouth. While we were there we saw variety of cultures yet it felt like they were separated in their groups. Inspired from the different restaurants and cuisines in the area, we thought that people share food and that is a sign of trust. A community bonds through trust, gained through interacting with each other. Therefore, we wanted to link the food with typography and break down the barriers of the multicultural communities. We looked at bread as the most adaptable type of food which is incorporated in different cuisines. We came up with a visual identity and an event where people can share bread together and interact with each other. To develop the idea further we thought of involving the community and create a sense of shared ownership by creating a bread recipe book where members can contribute their own bread recipes.
