Brixton Theatre Bombing

  • Álvaro Gómez
For this project I wanted to portrait the feelings of the victims of the II World War attack on London in a book, the sensations they had, and the contrast between present and past. The facade of Brixton Theatre was destroyed and the remains of the building had been turned into todays Ritzy Cinema. We focused on the transition between two buildings after the bombing and the representation of the nighttime atmosphere. Almost all the bombs were dropped during the night so we focused on sundown and dusk as a metaphor of this transition and as a frame to tell excerpts from some of the survivors stories. The aim was to create a tension between the simple and the complex by juxtaposing monochrome palette, minimal text and forms against the tragedy of war and the passage of time.
