JOB Design the 3D space & design the 2D graphics and branding for a temporary exhibition, called 'BROADSIDES, Caricature & the Navy, 1775-1815'. I wanted to show off the prints and not clutter that section of the walls with graphics or quotes. I kept the design very light & simple. My typography inspiration came from letterpress printing (comedy floor at Blackpool) and the fonts of that era. The typography sections I kept seperate, i.e. at the start & end of the exhibition, so they wouldn't interfere with the prints. The section panels
are made from diabond (printed directly to media) The span the lenght of the wall, from floor to ceiling, I didnt want to break up the sections too much & distract the eye from the caricatures, hence keeping the panels, paper banner, all white with a light graphic & typographic touch.
The 'BROADSIDES' exhibition showcases a selection from the Museum’s extensive collection of caricatures. Highlighting important naval actions and personalities, and presenting a unique perspective on the Navy’s place in British society and culture. In doing so, the exhibition also illuminates the continuing contemporary relevance of political caricature and graphic satire.
