Brodick Castle
Brodick Castle on the Isle of Arran is shaped by its surroundings – positioned on an island buffeted by the elements, nurtured by its waters, defined by mountain and shore. From its beginnings as a neolithic settlement and island fortress to the excess of its days as a luxury estate, this deep-rooted connection with its environment has always been at the heart of the sites identity.
We established a full visual identity for the site, and went on to develop a wayfinding and interpretation system using materials sympathetic to the environment. When applied, this created a consistent visitor experience that made sense of a complex site layout featuring multiple attractions. Featured illustrations by Boxdog Inc.
The Silver Garden is a celebration of the spectacular natural environment at Brodick Castle and the influences that have shaped it. Historically the design of the grounds were inspired by Romanticism, an artistic movement that swept across Europe in the 19th century. Romanticism valued man’s emotional reaction to the natural world, placing great emphasis on history and legend.
We developed the Silver Garden in the spirit of these ideals. Built from reflective materials, the installations blend and warp with their surroundings, creating a sensory experience that encourages people to find their own inspiration from the environment around them.
