Brotherhood

  • Alex Barlow

Amid a bleak background of prodigiously rising knife crime in London and reports of the biggest annual increase ever recorded in knife related crimes, the debate of how best to tackle this endemic continues. One certainty is that however it is approached, it needs addressing decisively and without delay. Brotherhood is a community and a support system providing safer environments for London’s youth. We aim to create knife free zones, providing protection for our brotherhood. Our promotion of safety and elimination of fear is designed to prevent those possessing a knife as a result of anxiety. A large proportion of London youth carry a knife out of fear which often leads to crimes they don’t intend on committing. We as a brotherhood aspire to create a knife free ethos and protocol implemented into our contemporary youth community. Brotherhood is a campaign that allows 12-18 year old males to join our new era youth society in London. Young London males seek identity and being part of a community; we provide a positive alternative to those vulnerable to affiliation of gangs. We as a brotherhood, aim to change our youth’s perception of safety in London environments. In the process, preventing those carrying a knife out of fear and keeping as many knives off the streets as possible.
