Brutalist Architecture

  • Sam Beach

This is my first project at uni, my brief was to look at locations dealing with social, political and historical context. So I decided to look at Brutalist architecture because I felt that it related to each of the contexts. The 3 buildings I photographed in this project are Trellick Tower, The National Theatre and Wyndham Court. One image looks at the outsider perspective while the other looks at the inside of the building and what residents would experience on a day to day basis. I created this layered effect because it helps exaggerate the lines and sections and creates fragments within the image which can be argued how the public views Brutalism as some love it and some hate it, creating a fragmented opinions.
