BREIF

Create a Campaign for WDC Whale and Dolphin Conservation around the issues and solutions of captive Orcas.

INSIGHT

In 1994 ‘Free Willy’ was released bringing the public’s attention to the issues surrounding captive Orcas. This was later emphasised by the release of the documentary ‘Blackfish’. Although the issue of captive orcas have gained huge momentum, there is little coverage of the solutions for this problem within the public eye.

SOLUTION

A campaign aimed at children to educate them on the issues and solutions on keeping Orcas in captivity and how they can help support the cause.
02 Logo Design
The logo is derived from the WDC Logo to align with the organisation. A bubble affect is used to distinguish between the campaign that the organisation in which it helps.
03 Animation
The animation itself follows a whale in the wild who is being confined within a bubble. A hand appears, moving towards the ubble and eventually popping the bubble to release the whale into a cove. The whale is then seen jumping over the net to rejoin his family.
The animation would be shown on children’s channels during the advertisement breaks. When showing the animation, a call to action would appear in the corner where individual can press the BLUE BUTTON to sign the petition against captive orcas by entering an email address.
04 Campaign Email
After an individual has entered their email to sign the peteition, they will get a thank you email with links to more information about the issues and the solutions. It would also show how the individual can help publise the issue further by joing in with the social media campaign.
05 Webpage Design
The website features an animation that children can interact with to find out about specific information realting to whales in captivity. This is achieved by the bubble in the corner of the animation that they can click on and pause the animation.

There is also an option to sign the peition located within the bubble. The bubble would show a live feed of people participating in the petition shown by bubbles appearing. The bubbles would vary in size according to how many people are joining.
06 Social Media Campaign
To elevate the campaign further a soical media challange would be invented, in which an individual would see how may bubbles they can burst out of ‘59’. The ‘59’ represents the 59 orcas currently in captivity. The individual would then tag people to take part in the challage and spread the word.

Participants can then search ‘burst their bubble’ in the sticker section on the social media recording. Individuals can then add a gif annimation and bubble template to fill in how many bubbles they burst.
