ByHuddle. Branding, Design & Creative Direction.

ByHuddle is a creative collective of creatives, creators, and change makers who want Burton to be a creative hub for the wider area.

As a creative designer living and working in Burton on Trent, for 8 years now, I have become increasingly passionate about the culture of the town. It’s for this reason - that in 2016 a new project was born out of a desire to inspire creative and cultural change in Burton. ByHuddle is a creative collective of creatives, creators, and change makers who want Burton to be a creative hub for the wider area.

This desire came from years of observations and many conversations between Ant & myself. We felt that, not only had the town been left culturally uninspired, but it was also lacking in creative infrastructure. Because of this we decided to take action!

By Huddle needed an adaptable identity that was dynamic and exciting, while also could take a back seat to the creative projects that were to come out of the collective. Now ByHuddle often appears as a signature to the project brands that engage their respective audience. Because of this the simple word mark has an adaptability to it, creating a device that can contain graphic elements, underscore statements and allow projects created ByHuddle to ‘huddle’ under a collective brand.

Starting ByHuddle as a means to build something bigger. Our plan to make this happen is to create and run creative and cultural projects as part of and for the community.

Huddle Together. This was our first project through ByHuddle. The goal was, and continues to be, to build a community of likeminded creatives.

A casual social gathering, the Huddle Together meet-ups are an open invite for all creatives who want to see Burton become a home for creativity and culture. We meet monthly for drinks, food and creative chatter in different venues across Burton.

LookUp Burton. The newest ByHuddle project is a directory, a creative and cultural guide to Burton. ‘Supporting creativity and culture in Burton on Trent.’

We launched LookUp Burton in March with a focus of encouraging creatives to look up and remain positive as the Coronavirus crisis began to close businesses and cause issues for the creative industries. Our initial push was to promote the creative individuals, their practices, and positive thoughts as they traverse their way through the crisis.

You can find the project on Instagram and the ByHuddle website.

Hidden Burton. This project is very much in its infancy. Hidden Burton is a photography project - Exposing the potential behind Burton’s decaying architecture. Revealing the opportunity in the unused. And discovering the hidden beauty in the forgotten.

I’ve always been interested in culture and creativity of places and how spaces can inspire people. As Co-Founder and Creative Lead, ByHuddle has become a perfect foundation to explore how the creative community of a place can have a significant impact on their home.
