Café Presse

Café Presse is a neighborhood café known for serving unfussy, affordable French food from morning until late. It prides itself as a reliable place to sit, stay awhile, and connect with what’s important to you, whether that is reading a magazine, catching up with friends, or enjoying a long lunch on your own. Their current logo is taken from the universal “Presse” sign seen outside of stationary and newspaper stores in Paris, but this devotion to authenticity is lost on their Seattle customer base. Authenticity, approachability, and pragmatism are key to the brand’s story. We chose to center the branding around simple and bold typography that is serious but not stuffy and left out more decorative or illustrative elements to let the food take center stage. Our main inspiration for the brand was the iconic posters created for the 1968 Paris protests, which graphically represent French egalitarianism and the utopian ideals of collective work and liberation.
